Dwyer's commitment to green
At Dwyer, we believe that sustainable building practices make good business sense. Now we're looking ahead and striving to make our products, and our company, more environmentally responsible – for the health of our customers and the planet. Our mission is to provide architects, designers, building professionals and customers with durable, attractive custom cabinetry that improves indoor air quality and contributes to sustainable building practices without sacrificing style.
Dwyer and GREENGUARD®
To demonstrate our commitment to the environment, Dwyer is actively working to obtain certification from green building organizations that reflect our mission. As a first step in this process, we received certification from the GREENGUARD® Environmental Institute (GEI), which establishes performance-based standards for low-emitting building materials, furnishings and finishes used indoors.
Our line of custom steel and thermofoil cabinetry has been designated GREENGUARD® Indoor Air Quality Certified, a classification for materials that have been rigorously tested and proven to adhere to strict chemical and particle emissions criteria.
In addition, Dwyer's cabinetry received the GREENGUARD® for Children & Schools(SM) certification, the most stringent standard for materials, furnishings and finish systems that considers heightened sensitivities to chemical emissions. The Children & Schools certification is a referenced standard for products used in K-12 schools, daycare facilities and healthcare environments, where indoor air quality is a critical concern.
Healthcare Applications and Indoor Air Quality
Low-emitting products and materials help improve indoor air quality, especially in the healthcare and educational arenas, where particleboard casework has long been suspected to be a significant contributor to "sick building syndrome." Because hospital patients often have weakened immune systems, they're especially susceptible to respiratory and other problems from environmental pollutants.
Installing GREENGUARD®-certified cabinetry from Dwyer can help reduce your risk of exposing patients to potentially harmful chemicals. GREENGUARD-certified products are listed in the Green Guide for Health Care, an industry-recognized best practices guide developed specifically for the healthcare industry.
Dwyer and LEED®
Installing Dwyer steel cabinets can help your business gain points in the LEED®- – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Green Building Rating System, the national standard for sustainable buildings developed by the U.S. Green Business Council, in the following categories:
Materials and Resources Credit 4.1: Recycled Content, 10% (Post-Consumer + ½ Pre-Consumer) – Dwyer steel cabinetry contains a minimum of 25% post-consumer waste.
Materials and Resources Credit 4.2: Recycled Content, 20% (Post-Consumer + ½ Pre-Consumer) – Dwyer steel cabinetry contains a minimum of 25% post-consumer waste.
Regional Materials Credit 5.1: 20% Manufactured Regionally – Dwyer is located in the Midwest, within a LEED®--friendly 500-mile radius of nine states.
Better IEQ – Steel and thermofoil cabinetry are certified low-emitting materials.
Our Promise to our Customers
